"I’ve had some time to reflect on all that took place with State Farm and wanted to share my overall experience. Had the top of a tree hit my hood and windshield. While the car was drivable I decided to forgo attempting to drive given the severity of the cracked windshield and state farm offered to tow it. While I was informed it would be towed to a State Farm facility for an initial assessment before going to a body shop for repairs, as apparently the verbal communication of the damages had alerted the system this would be a possible total loss, even when I expressed the damages weren’t that bad. Obviously, my judgement and what the system initially thought could be subjective but a cracked windshield and dented hood isnt “that bad” but whatever. I do quickly get put into a rental vehicle (that while this isn’t SF’s fault smelled like cig smoke. I’m including this to truly detail my week), and wait for further communication regarding my car. I wait for a few days. Do not hear back from my assigned claims rep. I’ve called and left VM’s, nothing. We check the SF app, nothing. All that’s on there is that I owe a $500 deductible. I then get a text, A TEXT, that says my car was deemed a total loss. Shortly thereafter I get a call where a woman is walking me through what I will get from the decision as they will be paying the remainder of my loan and giving me the rest. I’m literally crying on the phone hearing this (this comes into play later) and the woman asks me multiple times if I’m okay getting frustrated with me and I repeatedly tell her I don’t understand why it’s a loss, again, damages aren’t that bad. Moving on, we decide to not accept the decision of it being a total loss because again I’ve had no itemized list of what is actually damaged, is it something under the hood? etc. so we jump through hoops, call of these people bc again my assigned claims rep will not answer the phone. We FINALLY speak to someone who walks me through the list of damages which include items that do not seem to be damaged (i.e grill, roof panel, fenders, headlamp) totaling $7k worth of damage. That same rep also tells me the car was deemed a total loss upon pick up from where I had to towed from and that immediate decision was “optional”, so when I cried on the phone with the one delivering me the news it was “optional”? Additionally. I am told my car was looked at virtually. Remember when I said the car was towed to a Stare Farm facility? It was actually towed to Coparts which is a giant field filled with cars pending to be auctioned which come to find out it was a Coparts associate who looked at my car, not a State Farm rep on site… picking up my car, it has s**t written all over it, it was emptied out, license plate removed, smells horrible, and covered head to toe in dirt. With all of this being said, I dropped the claim and we no longer have insurance through SF. Fixed my windshield for $400, getting it detailed for $200, and getting a new hood in same color for $300… totaling $900 in repairs."
